I might not be able to completely put my finger on what slushwave is exactly but boy howdy do my ears pick when I hear it.
This album takes what I love from the early pioneers of dub like Scratch Perry, King Tubby, and Augustus Pablo – after what seems like a three thousand years of sci-fi evolution with the lost mellow dreaminess of the best of ambient. These beats and soundscapes are so fantastically hypnotic – although it’s in a totally different realm, it reminds me of the production style RZA. I mean, like with RZA’s sound, this catches a groove that seems to be on a wavelength that you’re mind needs and has been looking for. Like a meditation shortcut.
