Layers upon layers of absolute genius. The Slint homage album cover which was originally a nod to Mao. The song titles. The nod to the Refused nodding to Ornette. But oh my god the hooks! This thing is full of brilliant five star bangers. Every song is danceable and hypnotic and full of joy and energy.

Many artists take the hyper insanity of video game sound culture and work with it. And honestly, I don’t know enough to say that’s what they’re doing but to me it sounds like that. Except this doesn’t just work. It really really big time works. I think that’s the moment of genius: when the wildly abstract becomes so fun you forget how avant-garde it really is.

This is a no brainer AOTY from day one.
