Perhaps it was because Sun Ra was disgusted with humanity that he rejected the notion that he, himself, was human. Not only did he refuse to participate in WWII but he told the judge, if sent, he would kill the first high ranking officer he could. He understood that monotheistic religions worship evil. And he was a monstrous dictator as a band leader.

His music is a galaxy onto itself. He was prolific as he was radical. His music is a philosophical statement. He knew this planet was doomed but he gave us a glimpse of the future we’ll sadly never know.
