Wooley on trumpet and Rasmussen on alto sax. Rasmussen is heavily influenced by Ayler but the playing by both musicians feels more like it’s coming from the Don Cherry camp on this recording. There’s one thirty minutes track. At times it’s minimalistically quiet and some passages evoke Coltrane. Wooley can be immensely entertaining alone and Rasmussen has a very keen complimentary ear. To be clear, both musicians are fantastic and step up to any situation but that’s how I figure it’s going down. With Wooley setting the scene and Rasmussen complimenting the process. I’m fairly familiar with both musicians but to be honest I’m just hazarding a guess. This is a part of a concert series that also gave Laura Ortman a platform for a release this month. She’s an exciting musician so I’m looking forward to listening to that and reviewing it later this week. Back to Wooley and Rasmussen… yeah I recommend all the stuff either of them have been a part of which is a hell of a lot of music. Never been disappointed by either.
