⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
If the name Palle Mikkelborg sounds familiar to you it’s probably because of his work on Aura which turned out to be Miles Davis’ final album during his lifetime. The jazz octogenerian is still at it and this is the proof. Very much in the tradition of In a Silent Way this also has moments that feels a bit like Bitches Brew on quaaludes, like little glimpses at that anger still reverberating through the decades.
Coming in at half his age is guitarist, Jakob Bro. He has an impressive resume being a former member of The Paul Motian Band. His work on this record is immaculate. Perhaps highlighted best on the track Youth.
Marilyn Mazur, a 68 year old female drummer from NYC, handles the percussion flawlessly. She also played with Miles on Aura. Her style on this record is beautifully smooth, non-intrusive and extraordinarily engaging. Her skill is especially apparent on the track Returnings.
