Two world class percussionists get together in Lisbon and record a subtle and almost egoless album. This is truly music that’s only about the music. It’s challenging without being harsh, existing in the ethereal back woods of the avant garde. It sets a nice mood but the listener will be more deeply rewarded through strict concentration. This is music with enough depth to encompass you if you’re willing to be a meditative listener. Finding percussive music that’s this cerebral rather than physical is very rare indeed. Close your eyes, control your breathing, and focus on this great record.
