I wasn’t sure if I should try to front like I know diddly shit about Brazilian music or just come clean that I’m really very surface level about it. I think I know the basic things you’re supposed to know but honestly not much more. Huge country, obviously tons and tons of stuff going on. I should know more but the musical universe is really big and we’re all limited by the speed of light. So I’m really, in all honesty, reviewing this without much context. It’s mostly a blank slate impression.
It’s great! It’s a wonderful breath of fresh air from all the free jazz and ambient and just trying to figure out if there’s a new direction in my music listening sails. This is outside that entire paradigm. This is just cool music. Sometimes psychedelic; sometimes mellow in that Brazilian sense. It feels like a celebration and an appreciation of life which is how I like to imagine Brazil to be. Diverse and free. Sophisticated. Exotic and cool. Brothers and Sisters, just when I thought the same old same old was going to do my fucking head FINALLY here’s something I don’t have judge in the context of millions of talented competitors. This is like being able to afford a meal that actually really tastes different and better. Love.
