Immensity is an instrumental electronic record that lands more in the camp of space music than dark ambient although there’s lots of crossover in the genres and Cryo Chamber tends to lean into the latter. A spiritual cousin to the themes of 2001 this isn’t novel terrain artistically which makes it all the more impressive how compelling this release is. It’s space as a dark lonely cold sad frightening vast entity. Sonically, it has a slightly retro space travel vibe but revisited in a surprisingly effective and enjoyable way. It works. I’ve listened to so many good ones that are a solid three stars and this is better. It has a literary quality to it. The stars are not for us. It’s alien out there and not in a good way. There’s no place like home. Silent Universe does an exceptional job of using music to take us on a journey in a way usually only an excellent novelist can do. Bravo.
