Fogweaver takes a more ambient than a direct neo-renaissance approach with this one. Or another way to describe it is as neo-renaissance music laced with a laid back ambient vibe. I’ve been digging into dungeon synth pretty deeply recently and to be honest the bar is set really high. It’s probably the most underrated genre in the music world today. It turns out D&D nerds have a lot of talent. The opening track on Magelight sets the tone that Fogweaver is has all that going for it and more. It’s the best of both worlds. It has the chillax peacefulness of straight ambient with the melodic engagement of clever dungeon synth hooks. There’s a lot to choose from in both ambient and dungeon synth but if you want something that’s a cut above this is it. Love the album art, as well, by the way.
