If you don’t know Birch is rock’n’roll royalty google it. I’m not here to judge this record more favorably even though she’s a god. Or because she’s old. Or because she’s a woman and a feminist. I don’t give a fuck about it any of that because it doesn’t make her music any better or worse.
Here’s the skinny: She borrows from The Clash, The Beatles, that riff from The Breeders, Jah Wobble, Johnny Lydon, Scratch Perry, Crass, and even I Play My Bass Loud reminds me of Willow Smith’s Whip My Hair and All About That Bass by Meghan Trainor.
Basically this album is a blast. It has immediate pop appeal and social relevance. Damn it feels good to see people up on it.
