486REVIVAL by 486 Paradise

Genre: Experimental

Rating: Highly Recommended

released February 10, 2023

It’s been a minute since I’ve checked out a new B O G U S // COLLECTIVE release but the glitch tag piqued my interest. Glitch music used to be high on my radar but suddenly I just started seeing less of it. I still enjoy this approach and feel like it usually adds value to ambient work in general. It’s utilized here especially distinctly on the track ECCO i486. On the whole, the album offers a vaporized type of ambient music, weirder without sounding like background music for a haunted house. Even though strictly pure ambient can still be artistically relevant if done really well, in terms of progression it hasn’t moved forward since around 2010 which was a golden year in the most modern wave of ambient music. Even the blending of ambient and vapor isn’t exactly new but it is still at the leading edge of the new branches of the genre and this record does it as well and probably better than any other I’ve come across. Admittedly, with the prolific nature of these releaeses, B O G U S // COLLECTIVE alone releases a new record twice a week with shockingly good quality control, there are always going to be too many to possibly hear them all. Still, if you need to pick one, this one is definitely a winner.
