Reminiscent of Pausal and Hakobune and clocking in at twenty minutes èvia wisely chooses quality on this outstanding ambient release. The texture of this music is dense and interesting and remains engaging on repeat while also serving as excellent background music for reading or playing chess. Water sounds and chimes and bells mixed with long droning swelling notes create a calming atmosphere suitable for focus. While these are common techniques used in ambient music èvia has the magic touch that differentiates cold from the generic. Even the name and the cover art, while nice, may seem a bit generic, but wisely placed shots of extra sound, like a good jazz drummer making select musical comments on what is happening at the moment, or the pianist wisely and effectively comping while another band members soloes make all the difference. Common ingredients nicely arranged make this an ambient release worth listening to.
