Dirk Serries is my favorite musician on this record and I wish he was the only one. I respect what the musicians are doing but at some point when there’s a 1000 records of a 1000 other people doing it as well or better it’s time for a change up. Maybe they’re the AC/DC of free jazz and they do what they do and they’re going to do what they want to do keeping within the framework of their austere tradition. But sooner or later you have to think what’s the point of this? These records that really have a small chance of inspiring a second listen. It’s a live recording that was probably quite satisfying for the audience but honestly they should have left it there. We have enough already. Do more. Switch it up. I’m not asking for pop songs or accessibility in any form. Just pump up the intensity or experiment with minimalism or use electronics are go solo anything except saxophone. This record is lackluster.
