This deserves the same type of love Space 1.8 and Promises received but honest recognition is hard to come by even among jazz fans. Wadada Leo Smith is in the discussion as the greatest jazz musician still on the planet. The octogenarian still stuns with his gorgeous lyrical trumpet playing. He calls to the heavens. And the slightly older Andrew Cyrille is all that on drums as well. Can we just take a damn minute to recognize the magnitude of what’s happening here? Please? This is up there with Bitches Brew and Heavy Weather. Two Centuries is a part of the permanent transformation of jazz in the manner forecasted on In a Silent Way. Check this out or stay lost. It’s up to you.
