Right from the start I want to say I really like this album. It clearly separates itself from the very crowded field of ambient music. Jostein Dahl Gjelsvik, whose name is spelled with an extra i in his BandCamp notes, quite cleverly adds intrique to the ambiance with his use of experimental sounds. This isn’t gloomy enough for me to call it dark ambient but it’s not the peacefulness above all sort of ambient either. It packs a punch. A rock solid closed fist knuckle sandwich but not a sledgehammer hammer overkill. Basically, if you like the first few Tangerine Dream records you should like this. It’s good. It’s engaging ambient music that avoids being overly disruptive. Hits the sweet spot.
