This band’s 2008 release Every Woman Is A Tree is a big favorite of mine. It’s been in rotation since it came out and might be the first record to make me realize how fantastic Clean Feed is.
There’s nothing better than Liberation Music Orchestra and this band reminds me a lot of that. That’s great company and while I might not like it THAT much it’s close. To be clear, I’m saying A Muted Reality is great. I need to focus on the record at hand. The first two tracks are full on five star perfects. Tree also ends on a positive note but Muted‘s third and final track, a nine minute swing, Fkk Down, Fkk Off, maybe I’m too much of a curmudgeon and don’t appreciate the physical side of jazz as much as I should – whatever the case it just doesn’t fully work for me. Like Jaimie Branch, RIP still broken-hearted, she was so great at being celebratory. This one just isn’t on that level. I’m not even kidding when I say I want to just ignore it and shower the praise because the first two tracks so got it like that. And these musicians are so insanely talented.
