Unlike a lot of the ambient drone releases this one offers different moods and approaches. CIP doesn’t limit the sound sticking with a uniform format. There’s nothing remotely mainstream about it, and ultimately the feeling is sad. The music doesn’t always explicitly sound melancholy but it has a sad specter floating around. The strongest point is that Cameron MacNair is a good pianist so there’s a solid foundation. And the use of the non traditional sounds is so well thought out. The whole thing really compliments itself. Usually music this abstract has an ambiguous feel but this one is very emotive. The use of real urban field recordings is essential, too. It’s smooth and transitions well and makes sense musically. No complaints, it’s a great release.
