Multikulti Project presents eight piano driven compositions by Maciej Czajkowski. Over all the feel is moody but not aggressively pushing boundaries. There’s also a very coherent feel to the record and with only a casual listen one may not realize how diverse Czajkowski’s playing really is. The sound casually unfolds from third stream darkness to an upbeat modal postbop sound. I also really like the way it’s recorded. The bass and the drums, performed by Mariusz Praśniewski and Jesper Lørup Christensen respectively, are very well captured but it has a slightly swampy feel to it. The rhythm section shines an aqua blue spotlight on the piano in this mix that perfectly compliments the piano. Fans of Chick Corea and Brad Mehldau should find this appealing. And finally, big nods to Multikulti Project for having an incredible amount of excellent releases and a huge well of music generously made available on bandcamp.
