The vocal arrangements sort of remind me what can be heard in contemporary opera compositions. And unfortunately I typically find that style annoying, soulless, and simply poorly done. But there’s always room for me to learn and there are always artists who can take a style or genre and do it correctly and that’s what’s up here. These songs have a sort of Scott Walker power behind them. A powerful voice that insists on giving us more by pushing the boundaries. The compositional structures of Arthur Russell also comes to mind.
Dominic Appleton has been at it making gorgeous music with Breathless
