This beautifully produced release is engulfing and lush and succeeds at sweeping your mind away in a deep way that most attempts at ambient cannot. It’s layered and spacious and perfectly paced.
Honestly, I need to spend more time digging through the Altus label because from what I’ve heard they have excellent quality control. Everything I’ve listened to is excellent and I have a strong impression that the entire discography is up to that standard.
As far as I can tell the entire label is a showcase for the work of a man named Mike Carss.
If you live in a noisy neighborhood or apartment. Or if the sounds that penetrate your space are unnerving this music is especially suitable to drown out the bullshit with something special. I can often hear arguments and fights and the police making noise and on and on and music like this with good noise canceling headphones are a real quality of life thing. I appreciate artists like Carss who offer a more peaceful alternative to my sonic reality.
