Usually I donโt review compilations but since I hadnโt been introduced to this band and the cover art is so irresistible I decided what the heck, drive fast, take chances. Plus, Japanese things are usually fun. The first track is an instrumental with unfolding happy sound fractals. It reminds me a little of the Flaming Lips but itโs more jam bandy. The next two borrow more from an earlier time and have a bit of a Can feel to them. The fourth track is like the Grateful Dead jamming with Spiritualized. I know comparing what youโre hearing to other things is a bit dated way of writing about music and fell out of favor at around the turn of the century but itโs such an easy and effective way to describe the music Iโve decided what the heck, drive fast, take chances.
I recommend reading the Bandcamp notes. If youโre into Japanese hippy music youโll recognize the musical trees these musicians come from.
I think itโs fair to describe the next two tracks are being more Hawkwindy and the final more jazzy like Universal Congress Of.
Now I really feel like I owe it to this band to explore the original releases. Thatโs what compilations are all about, too.
