With the abundance of vapor and vapor adjacent releases flooding Bandcamp, vapor artists are challenged with keeping signature components of the genre intact while being both non-formulaic and engaging. dystopian exoplanet successfully accomplishes this task with Infinite Water which is both hypnotic and reaching.

It’s a concept record about trying to build a society from scratch on an exoplanet made entirely of ocean. The story is told through sound with the only guidance being the song titles themselves. Through this method of almost entirely non-verbal and even non-language story telling the listener is not stuck in the prison of language or in the vision of another. Wherever this music takes you, it’s a personal journal for you alone. The general ambiance is slightly surreal and comfortably mellow at times borrowing from gospel and disco. I’m reminded of Kim Stanley Robinson.
