Kim Cascone is one of the longest running most important names in the genre. He’s also a pioneering guitarist who redefines how we think of the instrument in a completely different galaxy than the Hendrix and Segovia galaxies. Along with a handful of other guitarists he takes us past classical tonality and of even post-Schoenberg atonality into the music appropriate for our present understanding of the space time continuum. He removes us not only from the paradigm of key signatures or the limitations with being defined by the lack of one and also takes us away from the chronological clicking of the clock.
This is to be understood as meditative and contemplative music. Although, if you want to you could put this to the utilitarian task or drowning out unwanted noise for reading or studying, and I wouldn’t hold it against you, this is really music to be focused on rather to simply allow focus. Again, it’s no crime to do with it and enjoy it as you will but for a real appreciation this music needs to be the focus of the meditation, not just the soundtrack for it.
