Genre: Free Jazz
Rating: 4/5
Brown and Carletti have created a laid back free jazz release consisting of two tracks that combine to make a little under an hour’s worth of solid music. Both tracks are credited to alto saxophonist Brown. I’m pretty sure the majority of the jazz I listen to the sax is a tenor. The alto register and the fluidity of Brown’s playing is comforting. He’s hanging his hat on great runs and clean tones. Plus the harmonic structure of his playing is clever and logical and pulls from the strongest traditions. I don’t want to name check probable influences but you will hear the echoes of those guys you love in this. Several moments pull on the heartstrings. And if you’ve been keeping up at all with the free jazz scene you know that he’s as much of an influencer as anyone active himself. If you don’t believe it look at the selected discography from his website

Carletti is an excellent drummer and does a fantastic job accompanying Brown. He’s intensely astute through out. Carletti worked with Joe Morris recently and I didn’t see this one on discogs so I decided to link to it here:
