Not my usual starting point but I love the album cover. Y’all, this is straight up hard boiled no bullshit austere as fuck not fucking around avant garde music. The difference between hit and miss with stuff is razor thin. I’m partial to the idea of being relatively generous as a reviewer in part because fuck it, I’m a fan, and two respect for where it’s coming from conceptually. Music like this is an endeavor. With close attention there’s a certain feeling you get when you know authenticity has met with talent. There are avant garde musicians that have achieved real acclaim that I think are frauds. It’s not the cliche anyone could do that accusation of fraud but it’s like if the music could manifest into a human Holden Caulfield would know. I’ll tell you a little secret, I’m the Holden Caulfield of avant garde music. That’s why this blog deserves more love. It’s the key to your musical promise land.

This recording hits the spot. It’s engaging. It’s consuming. Zerang is Chicago big shot. A gritty hard working musician whose biography on his website is definitely worth reading and holy shit look at this discography:

But the star of this show is the Bulgarian violinist Biliana Voutchkova. She’s been plugging away at it for some while. Hopefully, this series will further her career, she’s already got traction, but I hope she gets more. It’s not exactly the type of music that people can expect to retire on probably because of the lead in the atmosphere.
