Rating: 4/5

This one is one of those that’s austere but still stands out as an excellent release in a crowded field of talented and creative people. The special sauce is good use of field recording type sounds and traditional instruments.

The group is made up of two people. Lee Norris is an English gen-xer who uses several aliases and Wil Bolton, also from the UK, who is a bit more prolific (at least from what I can gather on discogs) and has collaborated with several musicians including Ian Hawgood.

Winter’s Fire is an apt title as background fire crackling sounds and water both create a solidified ambiance to this recording. I love a nice fire when it’s cold. And water is a fantastic instrument when played correctly. Even though these tracks have an ominous dark tone about them they’re very peaceful and easy to mediate on with a few cool curve balls to keep you engaged.
