I went through a couple records that looked promising this morning before landing on this one. I don’t have many regular readers but the regularity of my daily views does indicate that I have some and I’m steadily, albeit frustratingly slowly, gaining some traction. I’m pointing that out and talking about myself to put these reviews in some kind of context. I scan and skip over quite a bit of music before landing on something I want to review. Some artists may feel it’s unfair not to give a full listen to everything but there just isn’t time. If the quality isn’t there I have to move on. I guess I’m hoping that people respect and care that there’s a qualifying round, even for this blog.
The Bogus Collective and TVVIN_PINEZ_M4LL deserve a lot of credit for consistently releasing quality material. I want to nod to that.
Air Phase 空気相 is a mellow release with smooth spacious beats. There’s interesting production and captivating sounds that add excellent texture without being intrusive. It’s a part of a movement to take both vapor and ambient somewhere it desperately needs to go. It should go without saying this isn’t the only direction. It is, however, a great direction. I think a lot of us were ready to give up on beats back around 2016 or so. It was like ffs these beats are doing my gd head in. But artists like this brought the beat back. They pulled out the musical defibrillator and said you might not need this all the time but you need this some of the time. Without proper circulation you’ll get tissue damage.
