First off, it’s important to acknowledge how important Boris is. Amplifier Worship isn’t actually their debut record but don’t try telling my mind that. I was living in beautiful Hirosaki, Aomori snow country Japan but by the time my ears found it, two or three years later, I had moved to the urban madness super-sprawl of Aichi prefecture. Anyway, that classic, genre defining record came out in 1998. It’s absolutely mind-bending and horrifying how fast a quarter of a century passes by.
Boris has been stretching boundaries and defying categorization the entire time. They’re also the best metal band still going at it.
I’m on my third listen and I love everything about this record. It’s crushing and tender and the psychedelic vocals of Wata are as true to Japan as The Beach Boys are to California. Give thanks for another story in the triumph that is Boris’ discography. Amen.
