I know that critics want to take things in stride and not be hyperbolic and to avoid deification but with some artists you have to put that aside. Generally, I’m not just going to come out and say it until it passes the test of time and I can use the 20/20 for perspective. But Earl is different. I already know what he is. There’s nothing better going on right now than this. Period.
I hate to look at an album or individual release of his as a singular identity removed from the whole of his discography because it’s so important to see it all as part of the whole. However, SICK! does have some distinctions. The way he enunciates is clearer with a more forceful projection. And the mixes are less ketamine and more psilocybin.
Like everything he’s done this a masterpiece.
