I don’t think people really agree on this definition but back in the late 1980’s I asked one of my professors what post-modern means and she said she said it was borrowing from any other intellectual or artistic movement without accepting ideological confinement. As these consistently pleasant and clever songs unfold I’d say that’s very applicable here. The comfort at which good pop music enjoys fluidity these days exemplifies one of the greatest things about young people today. We didn’t even realize we were confined and I’m not sure we appreciate how revolutionary this is culturally.
The title track is a great pop song. The rest are all very good pop songs. Summer’s Over is easily enough to carry an entire career for a lifetime. It’s that rare of a gem.
