In the very crowded field of ambient music it’s very hard to separate from the pack. And the reason why is the same as any other genre: You have to be able to write good music. Electronics provide nice soundscapes by default. But nice isn’t excellent. Tasselmyer creates excellent sonic backdrops. But even that doesn’t really create separation. What it really boils down to is the melodic core. Long and droning as they may be ultimately they’re melodic themes. And that specifically is what most people cannot do well. Like an athlete’s speed a musicians ability to hook you into the melody can’t be taught. They either have it or they don’t. This record shines a lot on the special truth that Tasselmyer has it.
