Portuguese trumpeter and student of Electroacoustic Composition at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm Silva is a leading figure in the new jazz scene, especially since her solo release of All The Rivers in 2018. https://susanasantossilva.bandcamp.com/album/all-the-rivers From The Ground Birds Are Born is the first electronic work of hers I’ve heard. It’s frustrating how much of her music is behind paywalls on bandcamp and not on Spotify at all. Although, I know she’s a very kind generous person and I also understand the pandemic and being a graduate student doesn’t exactly equal riches for an avant-garde musician I just don’t want to play CDs or records or use cloud space or phone space or dig into another medium but I hate how much of her music I haven’t heard. Anyway, I’m very excited about her future because combining her trumpet with electronics should work wonderfully. And although everyone from from Fred Frith to Anthony Braxton wants to work with her I think she’s at her best by herself. She’s a genius.
