French is a prolific and ambitious artist who has taken his uncompromising ways around the globe and has enjoyed residences in many places. He seems to run in academic circles more than most musicians. He has the spirit of Tim Hecker and the intellect of Karlheinz Stockhausen. When a piece of music is straight and very austere avant-garde like this it’s a subtle cerebral process that identifies it as well above the pack. It just feel different. It alters your reality. This is almost an Eno cliche to say this about ambient and field recording compositions but this does have the dreamy 3 AM airport feel. Especially a small commuter flight that forces you to walk outside in the cold.
