This is, as far as I can tell, an all female band from Iceland. They’re a goth band with all the right influences. Undir Köldum Norðurljósum isn’t especially pioneering music but their layered textured sound that’s vaguely borrowed from dream pop provides some separation from the pack.
Primarily, a band like that has no choice but to hang their hat on quality song writing and exceptional vocals. The song writing is very good and the vocals are great. No nonsense, straightforward, vocals pulled off undeniably successfully like this is a rare treat in any genre at any level of success. The vocals are hypnotic, mesmerizing, beautiful, and even erotic.
These women have been at it for at least the better part of a decade and their clips on YouTube are well on their way to garnering 3 million views and for good reason. They are very visually and sonically appealing. Kælan Mikla are an excellent band.
