An interesting, entertaining, and aesthetically pleasing mellow pop-oriented hip hop release out of Houston. They’re doing their own thing but it’s Tribe or De La Soul (*3 Feet High and Rising is finally coming to Spotify btw – if you care – not being a fan of digging through my physical music collection I’m down with it) and maybe like a touch of The Miseducation of Lauren Hill as an influence. Anyway, you get the picture: more love and soul and less direct aggression that you might associate with Houston. Not Screwed up (but I’m always happy to hear any and all hip hop loced out) not Geto Boyz not UGK. Hey Houston is a big city and times change.

I’ll make the same point in different reviews but good pop music, to me, is the greatest challenge. And TonyDark successfully accepts the challenge. He makes good music and doesn’t hide behind bullshit stereotypes or absurd lies, braggadocio, or corny cliches. Just good tunes. Not many people can do it.

I especially like the track Horizons ft. C-RED so I checked out some of C-RED’s music, in particular Previous Releases by C-Red https://colored.bandcamp.com/album/previous-releases and it’s definitely really dope and should really appeal to Fugees and Lauren Hill fans.

I’m looking forward to digging deeper into these discographies.

PS I also like the Raymond Pettibon looking album cover.
