Water is one of my favorite instruments. It’s no wonder that the sound of it is so appealing. Thales believed water is alive and the original principle of nature. 2700 years later, the more we learn about matter, life, and consciousness, the more incredibly insightful his ideas seem. Terry Pratchett once described humans as, “little bags of thinking water held up briefly by fragile accumulations of calcium”.
Bloom is in large part the subtlety of mostly still water recorded with hydrophones. And as the fifty-five minutes progress the sonic landscape is further drenched with synth and guitar loops.
The entire composition is meditative and the transition away from unaccompanied water is not disruptive at all. It doesn’t fall into the trap of being a gimmicky obsession with only being water nor do the layers of new sound fail to compliment the original principle.
All through it’s compositionally sound sound smooth sailing through your wet mind.
