Well… I’ve found another shoo in for the 2021 albums of the year list. Legends of American Theatre successfully accomplishes the most laudable goals of contemporary field recordings. It is frighteningly of our times. This music feels like an audio extension of my body. The complex ecosystem that is me. My biology vibrating along with everything else. Consciousness recorded and played back to itself.

Rosetto doesn’t just record sounds and reinterpret them on this record. She curates the sounds that make us what we think we are in a way that no other composer has. This is an incredible document of now. And now will always have been.

One wonders what documents are going to survive the digital age. Will it all be lost or will it all be preserved. I’m figuring on most of this overpopulated mess fading into lost data sooner than expected. This is one that should take precedence to be saved. Put a copy in one of those seed banks five miles under the earth.
