If you’re only going to check out one ambient album this year you’d be making a fine choice with this one. Aleksandra Zakharenko, her real name, has a voice and a style, while quite different in terms of genre, that has an esthetic and tenderness that makes me think of Jarboe.
The music is subtle, as is the nature of ambient, but it also has a lot of depth that can be appreciated from an ethereal ambient perspective but the sounds have an organized layered quality that’s more tangible: like a string quartet.
I see there’s lots on bandcamp I haven’t listened to yet. I’ll have to start taking my blood pressure medicine again to make sure I have time.
