The Dream Catalogue label has released back to back to back home runs. This record has the typical vapor art but sonically is difficult to categorize. It runs a loop sample of someone who sounds like a black nationalist like Farrakhan supporter and with all the stuff going on recently it’s easy to forget the aesthetic of that sort of grandstanding. These days the rhetoric is so important with the shootings and trying to heal from Trump and covid and black people keep getting murdered by the police. I mean these are crazy times but there’s also a beauty in the black voice that’s not often utilized and celebrated like it is on this record. The sampling and the music that surrounds the rhetoric is really exciting and plays perfectly to mesmerizing effect the speaker has. This is a very unique record and it’s also beautiful and powerful and certainly of the moment.
