Oh boy this is good! All four tracks tie together in a cohesive whole and there’s more cohesiveness throughout. There’s more than one way to skin a cat but a lot of free jazz philosophically strips away at the ego to pay deference to the whole. That’s what we have here. Something, like I said, coherent is being constructed and everybody is on task keeping cool with the mission. It’s free jazz but really this is heavily about maturity and discipline. There’s a sound and the entire quartet focuses on getting it just right the entire time on all the tracks. I’m excited about reviewing this because I am positive that every musician on this is going to claim a bigger space in our jazz consciousness. The label hype says this ensemble is going to be performing like crazy as soon as things open up completely. That’s great. I hope they’re able to tour everywhere. I’d be out of my mind with joy to get to see this band.
