Owen Chambers’ Carnivorous Plants release Burning Apricot is one of my editors picks for so far 2021 so I was super excited to see this release in my bandcamp feed this morning. And it certainly doesn’t disappoint. There’s plenty of room to be very good and still not reach the same heights as Burning Apricot, at least to my ears. On this one Chambers works with three other musicians. The very talented Tina Hitchens contributes flute and in my opinion this should be remixed and up her volume because her contribution is the best contribution. Otherwise, I’m not sure who does what but the vocalizations also should be more prominent because that too is very beautiful and engaging. I also love the percussion and I love how it’s recorded and mixed in. Despite my criticism or suggestions or whatever you want to call it this is by any standard a top shelf release by some great artists.
