Jobin frequently composes music and writes about time and quantum physics. I’m definitely not like the IQ1000 sort but I have thought about music as an artistic medium that takes place in time as it’s happening. One aspect of drone since the onset of the Fluxus movement has been the removal of the relevance of traditional chronological time from the music and leaving us in the flow of experienced time. As a result the length of the composition becomes less relevant and often the beat and the tempo is non-existent. The composition can comfortably stay in one place for three minutes or three hours. Jobin’s special place in the drone pantheon is elevated by her ability to successfully remove the traditional compositional arc and replace it with a circle where the starting point and the ending and the clicking of cause and effect become deeply negated.
