Authors can write about their homes and where they are from and move the story in the setting of their origins. Older musicians, like the now octogenarian Brötzmann, who are carrying on the greatest musical tradition the world has ever known have to dig even deeper. They have to find their spiritual home. And as listeners we have a responsibility, too. We must know our cultural sound history and cleanse ourselves from the past and embrace the new now in the way that you would if you physically moved to a new setting. And with this record we’re so lucky to have the greatest musical architects working for us. With Brötzmann in particular our past has been defined when he blasted a new beginning out of an already new beginning. And here he is still laying his soul bare because he loves us so. And I love him and this trio and this beautiful masterpiece of a record.
