Both Ware and Shipp are crucially important jazz masters. I rarely get sentimental about musicians passing away but I wish Ware, who died in 2012, could have heard all the fantastic free jazz over the last 8 years or so. About this record in particular, it’s a great chance to hear these two in an uncluttered setting. And they’re both so intuitive it’s almost like a solo.
