Free jazz is still the best and most important genre going and I’d like to be gushing praise on more releases but unlike the other genres I’m mostly focused on these folks actually expect to make a living playing music and in case you haven’t noticed there hasn’t been a lot of touring going on. I’m not blaming anyone but I want full and complete free access to the public for the records I review. That’s not a total hard and fast rule but if songs are missing I generally move on to the next.
Obviously, Paal Nilssen-Love is the most famous musician here and everyone on this record shreds and is immensely talented but to my ears guitarist Ketil Gutvik is the one who really excites and takes this to the next sonic level.
